Hacktivism

Hacking should always be an illegal act. It is a form of stealing no matter how you look at it. I am by no means against hacking but I think if people are willing to hack they must also be willing to face the consequences. There is a big difference between Protesting and Hacktivism. Protesting involves people going out in public and fighting against something that they believe needs changed. Hacktivism is gaining access to something that you are not allowed to, and altering it to prove a point. In my eyes hacking is identical to stealing. If i were to go into someones house and steal their computer it is the same as me sitting on a laptop from a remote location and hacking into the computer over the internet and gaining access to information.

If people want to protest over the internet they should create a movement and gain momentum using a website or social media device. Hacking into websites or hardware and releasing private information into the mainstream web will ultimately not change anything. It will only anger who is being attacked. Using Sony for example, they got mad so they went out and sued the man who hacked their console. This lawsuit is going to cost the man a lot of money and depending on how the court sees it he could face jail time.

With the advancements of technology, hacking will always continue to expand. There will always be a way to loophole the system and exploit information. However i do not think it should ever be legal to hack websites or hardware for personal usage.
