Hacktivism

Hacking should always be an illegal act. It is a form of stealing no matter how you look at it. I am by no means against hacking but I think if people are willing to hack they must also be willing to face the consequences. There is a big difference between Protesting and Hacktivism. Protesting involves people going out in public and fighting against something that they believe needs changed. Hacktivism is gaining access to something that you are not allowed to, and altering it to prove a point. In my eyes hacking is identical to stealing. If i were to go into someones house and steal their computer it is the same as me sitting on a laptop from a remote location and hacking into the computer over the internet and gaining access to information.

If people want to protest over the internet they should create a movement and gain momentum using a website or social media device. Hacking into websites or hardware and releasing private information into the mainstream web will ultimately not change anything. It will only anger who is being attacked. Using Sony for example, they got mad so they went out and sued the man who hacked their console. This lawsuit is going to cost the man a lot of money and depending on how the court sees it he could face jail time.

With the advancements of technology, hacking will always continue to expand. There will always be a way to loophole the system and exploit information. However i do not think it should ever be legal to hack websites or hardware for personal usage.

Make Them Safe

I chose to tell electronic companies to make their products safe. I believe instead of making 100% new products they should just make add ons or replacement parts that can be interchanged. This would create less waste and consumers would not have to buy a new electronic console every year. also replacement parts would create less waste and companies could also start a program that encourages consumers to recycle their old parts and give them back to the company so they could be re-used

Kony2012

Before FYS I had never heard of Joseph Kony. I am very surprised because it seems like a very popular topic. As i watched the video it really grabbed my attention. It was very interesting and well put together. I think that the idea of KONY2012 is an excellent idea. Making him a celebrity is the best way to bring him down. If every one in the world had an idea who he was, he would be stopped very quickly. What he does is wrong and he should be taken out. No children should have to face the fear of being abducted and forced to become a child soldier. Although this has nothing to do with the U.S and many other foreign countries, I believe that they should still get involved. Ending Konys reign would make the world a better place and would save thousands of children s life's. Taking him out would also show that people are not going to stand by idle and not care what criminals do.

Social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube is the best way to contact people and spread the word. It was a genius idea for the KONY2012 team to create and post their video on Youtube. That one video was viewed by nearly 100 million people. That number is significantly more than if the Kony2012 team had went door to door and told people about Joseph Kony.

The best way to keep spreading the word is to keep posting links of the Kony2012 video. If everyone at John Carroll received the link it could create support. Then if all the students sent the video to another student at another University support could grow exponentially.

Deadly Cadmium

1) China is the top producer of cadmium. It is a common impurity in Zinc Ores. For every 2000lbs of Zinc the outcome is 6.5lbs of Cadmium. Cadmium is isolated from the Zinc by Vacuum Distillation.

2. Cadmium is extremely hazardous to the environment. It can get into the crops and water supply of certain areas and poison everything. Due to the adverse effects on the environment and human health, the supply and use of cadmium is restricted in Europe under the REACH Regulation.

3.Cadmium exposure is a risk factor associated with early atherosclerosis and hypertension, which can both lead to cardiovascular disease. Also Cadmium can be found in Cigarettes.

4. The most dangerous form of occupational exposure to cadmium is inhalation of fine dust and fumes, or ingestion of highly soluble cadmium compounds.[2] Inhalation of cadmium-containing fumes can result initially in metal fume fever but may progress to chemical pneumonitis, pulmonary edema, and death.

Electronic waste better known as E-waste is growing very rapidly in today's world. As technology keeps improving and becoming more affordable people are buying newer and newer technology every single day. So where is all the old technology going? Its going to places around the world that do not have the power to say no. Countries like the United States are using there economic power to throw their garbage somewhere else. This garbage is highly toxic and when it is not handled properly it can poison water tables and soil. Also the workers who are being treated poorly are working in unsafe environments and are exposed to the toxins inside the products. This is not social justice. Just because some countries have enough money and power to ship their garbage to other places doesn't mean they should. Each country should be responsible for their own doings. If they choose to take their garbage to other places then they should also pay for the proper equipment and factories to safely handle their garbage. No one should have to suffer because more powerful countries are playing dumb. Regulations should be set in place to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen. If a  country doesn't want to follow the rules then there should be consequences for them. No one should get a free pass.

Definitions of Social Justice

1. "Social justice is justice exercised within a society, particularly as it is exercised by and among the various social classes of that society. A socially just society is based on the principles of equality and solidarity, understands and values human rights, and recognizes the dignity of every human being."  (Wikipedia,  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_justice  9/4/2012)

2. "Social Justice, also known as economic justice, is a term describing the redistribution of wealth for the common good of all. However, this comes at the expense of wage earners and liberty by demanding a society to conform. Those who work and have must give to those who don't work and don't have. This is the fundamental basis of Marxism and championed by liberal progressives. Everyone shall have equal advantages and everyone will have equal disadvantages. In reality it creates two classes, those with power and everyone else."  (Conservapedia, http://conservapedia.com/Social_justice  9/4/2012)

3. "The fair and proper administration of laws conforming to the natural law that all persons, irrespective of ethnic origin, gender, possessions, race, religion, etc., are to be treated equally and without prejudice." (Business Dictionary, http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/social-justice.html  9/4/2012)

4. "Social justice is about equality and fairness between human beings. It works on the universal principles that guide people in knowing what is right and what is wrong. This is also about keeping a balance between groups of people in a society or a community. A fair perception about race, age, gender, culture, laws, traditions, beliefs is considered a good balance. Social justice happens when a person or group of persons do not harbor prejudices that are detrimental to peaceful and productive relationships among individuals or groups." (http://www.socialjusticedefinition.com/  9/4/2012)

5. "Definition:

The distribution of advantages and disadvantages within a society."

Social Justice

1. The biggest similarity of all the different definitions is that each definition incorporates social equality for all, no matter what race, gender, or ethnic background. a huge difference between my definitions is that the second definition states that in reality social justice sometimes does not work how it is supposed to and it creates two classes. A class with power and a class with none. i find that interesting because no other definition seems to talk about that

2. The definition that I think is most correct is my 4th definition. To me this definition makes the most sense and is the most basic to understand

3. I think that social justice should be enforced by all humans. People need to be fair and Equal to one another without and prejudice to make the world a better place.

4. After researching Social Justice i will be more educated while reading The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas and i will approach it with an open mind.

BlogPost#1

Hi my name is Kyle Morris, I am from Mentor Ohio and my primary email is kmorris16@jcu.edu
I am into many things, my favorite sport is Basketball and in my free time I like to watch movies. One of my favorite movies of all time is Shawshank Redemption. If you have not seen it give it a shot.
Learning
In the class room I like helping other people and working with others to make things more fun. For me to feel comfortable in the class room I need to feel that everyone else in the class room is as relaxed as I am. if people are willing to hear my ideas then i am willing to hear theirs as well.
Technology
I feel that the airplane is one of the best inventions of all time because without it places would feel too distant. No one wants to ride across the country in a car when they could fly there in 3 hours.
Essential technology’s in my life include:
  1. IPhone
  2. Computer
  3. WIFI
  4. The internet
  5. T.V.
The last Two years i have not used much social networking cites. I do not have FaceBook and my twitter is only for this class. I do, however, really like computers. I am no hacker but i do have some skills on a computer. I use it mostly for school work and listening to music. Overall i would rate my self a 6.5 on the scale
